TEAM NEWS

Ole hinted at changes in the aftermath of Sunday’s triumph, while confirming that Jesse Lingard will definitely start Wednesday’s match.

Our no.14, who netted the winner against his former loan club at the weekend, has now come off the bench to score in consecutive Premier League matches and will be bidding to impress again in midweek, this time from the off.

It remains to be seen who will join Jesse in the XI, but if David De Gea is given a rest after his penalty-saving exploits, there could be a return to the first-team matchday squad for Dean Henderson, and perhaps a competitive United debut for summer signing Tom Heaton who was on the bench at the London Stadium.

As far as outfield players go, the boss has recently suggested that we could see more of full-back Diogo Dalot in the weeks to come, so he could get a start.

Two more defenders, Phil Jones and Alex Telles, have returned to training recently and are continuing to work their way back to full fitness, as is Edinson Cavani who could be in contention for a place in the starting line-up for the first time this campaign.

There could also be opportunities for youngsters such as Anthony Elanga, who impressed in pre-season and was on target in the Under-23s’ victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Reds go into this tie unbeaten in the last 17 home games against the Hammers, a run that dates back to the final day of the 2006/07 Premier League season when Carlos Tevez netted the decisive goal in a narrow win for the London club. We have met back-to-back like this before too, in October 2016 when a rampant display saw us overcome West Ham 4-1 on home soil, at the quarter-final stage of the League Cup, just a few days after a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on the same ground.

Manchester United host West Ham at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday night.

United secured the three points against West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday thanks to Jesse Lingard’s goal and some David de Gea penalty heroics, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed after that game that Lingard would start in midweek against the Irons.

“He’ll play [Lingard], of course, on Wednesday because we will make a few changes,” Solskjaer said after United’s 2-1 win in London.
