Thaicom 5 was built by Alcatel Alenia Space, and depends on the Spacebus 3000A satellite transport, with a design indistinguishable from the Thaicom 3 satellite which it supplanted. It was initially requested as Thaicom 4, yet offered to Agrani as Agrani 2 preceding culmination. It was finished in 1997, and put away until June 2005 when it was dropped and offered back to Thaicom. It was outfitted with 25 G/H band (IEEE C band) and 14 J band (IEEE Ku band) transponders, and at send off it had a mass of 2,800 kilograms (6,200 lb), with a normal functional life expectancy of 12 years.
Thaicom 5 started encountering specialized challenges in December 2019, making Thaicom copy a few stations, including Korean Central Television, to adjoining satellites.
