History

In June 2007, Hispasat ordered the construction of a communications satellite based on EADS Astrium’s Eurostar-3000 satellite platform. Amazonas 2 provides a full range of telecommunications services to Brazil, as well as North and South America, from its orbital position of 61 degrees west in geostationary orbit.

Launch

The satellite was successfully launched into space on October 1, 2009, at 21:59 UTC, by means of an Ariane 5 ECA vehicle, launched from the Kourou Space Center, in French Guiana, together with the satellite COMSATBw 1. It had a launch mass of 5460 kg

TV Operators

The Amazonas 2 satellite, together with the Amazonas 3, provides services to several cable TV operators.

The operators exist Oi TV, Vivo TV, CTBC TV, Movistar TV Digital Latinoamérica, and iON TV, which contract the satellite transmission services of Media Networks.
